The UK’s leading supermarket chains have withdrawn further Scottish salmon products due to a risk of white spirit taint, resulting in an unpleasant taste.
The recall includes products from Asda, Sainsbury’s and Tesco after Morrisons sparked the recall last week.
The Food Standards Agency has been informed that a number of other products and brands, supplied by Marine Harvest and Young’s Seafood, could possibly be affected and, as a precautionary measure, have been withdrawn from sale.
Marine Harvest is investigating the cause of the taint and believes the source of contamination is diesel.
The chemicals causing the problem are present at low levels and are very unlikely to be a risk to health, the FSA said.
