Sainsbury’s has today (10 January) announced plans to create 20,000 jobs over the next three years.
The plans, which are the result of its expansion programme, were announced alongside an employment summit held by UK Prime Minister David Cameron.

Sainsbury’s chief executive Justin King said: “These new jobs will provide a huge boost to communities across the UK and as they are a mixture of full- and part-time positions there will be an opportunity suitable for everyone.”
“We recognise the importance of doing more than simply creating jobs, and this is why we are committed to providing our colleagues with an unrivalled range of training and development opportunities such as our award winning apprenticeship programme and industry leading scheme for graduates.
Morrisons also announced today that it would create some 6,000 new jobs this year, with some 300 of those jobs to come from manufacturing.
Also attending the summit was Tesco, which previously announced plans plans to create 9,000 UK jobs this year, the Co-operative Group, which is planning to add 1,000 jobs to its business and Asda, which plans to hire 7,500 staff this year.
