Ocado announced today (12 April) that it has appointed eBay European senior vice president Douglas McCallum as an independent non-executive director.
McCallum will join the online grocer with effect from 3 October.
Ocado chairman Michael Grade said: “I am very pleased to welcome Doug to the Ocado board. His high-level background in e-commerce and IT is a most valuable addition to the skills and experience of the existing directors. He will make a significant contribution to Ocado’s plans for growth.
“Doug’s appointment marks Ocado’s latest step toward a board composition that fully complies with the UK Corporate Governance Code.”
McCallum has held a number of senior management roles with Capital Radio, Intel Corporation, and Pret A Manager. He led eBay’s UK business from 2002, before becoming European senior vice president in 2008.
The retailer has been progressing towards profitability, recording its first net profit in the fourth quarter of last year. The retailer’s sales have also been growing, and in the first quarter, the retailer recorded a 24.7% jump in gross sales to reach GBP146.2m.
