Swedish dairy alternatives specialist Oatly is launching a new dairy-free, oat-based alternative to cream in the UK. The product can be poured onto food or used in cooking and baking.
The Oatly Dairy-Free Alternative to Cream is low in saturated fats, containing 13g of fat per 100g, free from lactose, milk protein and soya, and cholesterol-free. It will cost GBP0.79 (US$1.55) for a 250ml pack, the company said.
The new product contains 150Kcals for a 100g serving, against 445Kcals for an equivalent serving of double cream. It will also have a shelf life of several months.
A number of Oatly dairy-free oat drinks are already available in the UK, marketed as alternatives to both soya and dairy milk, including the Oatly Healthy Oat range – Organic, Enriched and Chocolate. All the products are made from selected oats, based on a unique patented process developed at the University of Lund in Sweden, and are GM-free.
