Nestle has decided to drop its Wonka chocolate brand in the UK, with production stopping this summer.

The company relaunched Wonka in the UK just under a year ago but the brand will disappear from UK shelves by the end of the year.

Nestle declined to comment on the reasons for the move but sought to play up what it says is the “novelty” element of the confectionery category.

A Nestle spokesperson said: “Consumers love novelty and innovation in their confectionery and this sits perfectly for a brand such as Wonka. Novelty is by its nature often short term and Nestle has re-introduced the Wonka brand a number of times in the UK and Ireland over the years.”
