Marks and Spencer has added to the range of food it sells online but insisted the move does not signal plans to launch a full grocery service via the Internet.

The UK retailer has added 100 “food hall favourites” to the portfolio of products it sells online.

The company had been selling food for entertaining online that customers could then pick up in store.

The new products include desserts, meat, fish, vegetarian products and gluten-free lines and will help consumers planning for dinner parties, a spokesperson said.

However, the spokesperson insisted its online offer remains a “food-to-order service” focused on “entertaining and dining” and added the move “should not be seen as a precursor” to a full online food offer.
