Motorway service area operator, part of food service group Compass, has announced that it is changing the face of its food offer after extensive customer research.
Out go the hot lamps and ready-to-serve food, the company said. In comes freshly prepared food cooked to order, freshly made salads, panninis, focaccia bread, continental breakfasts and fruit.
“The face of motorway service areas has been subtly changing for some time now so we commissioned extensive customer research to find out exactly what our guests liked, didn’t like or felt could be improved,” said Brian Lotts, Moto’s managing director. “The result is our new-look service areas that will encourage people to linger and therefore properly relax and refresh themselves before continuing their journey.”
“What we have done is not dramatic but it is a change for the better and a reflection of the growing desire that people have for a healthier lifestyle and healthier food to accompany it,” he said. “The emphasis of the new food offer is on freshness, both of ingredients and preparation and we believe it will prove to be another great success.”
The old favourites of motorway travellers will still be available but cooked to order rather than kept on hotplates. Freshly made salads and pasta dishes will become a mainstay, with tossed Caesar salad as a speciality. They will be supplemented by bigger chiller cabinet displays offering a wide choice of drinks and sandwiches, including the new panini and foccacia selections. Moto will become the only service area operator to offer triple-decker sandwiches.
