Milk Marque is to close its Product Development Centre based at Reaseheath, near Nantwich in Cheshire, with the loss of some 15 jobs.

The Centre was established in 1993 to offer consultancy, training, pilot plant, market testing and contract processing facilities for the dairy and liquid food sectors. Since that time the Centre has worked with more than 300 client companies and developed a range of expertise second to none in its field.

Since the decision to break up Milk Marque in 2000, the Centre has continued to trade and build relationships whilst a buyer was sought. Despite it being on the market since the autumn of that year, however, Milk Marque has been unsuccessful in attracting a purchaser to take the business forward as a going concern. Closure is therefore the only realistic option.

Commenting on the closure, scheduled for this summer, Milk Marque Managing Director, David Jones said “I am personally saddened by the imminent closure of the Product Development Centre. I believe that the UK dairy industry has benefited over the years from the resources available at the Centre and that both these and the expertise which has been on tap, will be sorely missed.”
