UK food company Matthews Group has acquired Quality Kernels, a UK-based processor of conventional and organic nuts.
The existing Quality Kernels management team – managing director Andrew Waller and sales director Suzanne Waller – are to remain at the company.
“The acquisition of Quality Kernels is an exciting step in the development of Matthews Group and complements our other activities in the value-added food ingredients markets,” said Matthews Group CEO Rob Whitehead. “Quality Kernels has a very experience management team in Andrew and Suzanne and we are confident that with our investment and support they will continue to develop the business further particularly through product innovation.”
“With the recent investment by Matthews Group and with the continued support of their experienced management team we are confident that Quality Kernels has a bright future,” Suzanne Waller said. “As part of a larger group Quality Kernels is now in a position to grow the business into a GBP10m (US$20m) business over the next five years by offering our customers the best in quality service and product innovation.”
Quality Kernels currently has an annual turnover of around GBP5m. Harrogate-based Matthews is an independent food group, producing chilled, frozen and ambient ingredients for the UK retail, foodservice and food manufacturing markets.
