Confectionary giant Mars is giving away 100,000 footballs as part of a GBP7m (US$14.2m) marketing campaign to encourage grass roots interest in the sport.
The Mars balls get Britain playing campaign is a nationwide promotion running from April to June.
Some 10,000 footballs will be given away through an on-pack instant win, 50,000 through trade partnerships and an additional 40,000 through other marketing activities.
Bep Sandhu, Mars Snackfood UK trade relations manager said: “This spring, Mars wants as many people as possible to get their hands on a ball, head down to the local park and enjoy a kickabout.”
The Mars on-pack promotion will be driven by TV advertising, press, radio, outdoor poster sites and value deals.
