Duchy Originals, the upmarket UK food producer founded by the Prince of Wales in 1990, has made an annual profit after its 2009 deal with UK retailer Waitrose.
Accounts filed at Companies House show Duchy Originals had a GBP2.3m (US$3.4m) profit in the year to March 2011, compared to a GBP537,000 loss the year before. Sales also jumped from GBP1.2m to GBP2.4m.
During the year the company also made a GBP625,293 donation to the Prince of Wales Charitable Foundation.
The 2009 deal, according to a statement in the filing, gives Waitrose the exclusive rights to promote and distribute in the UK.
Mark Price, MD of Waitrose, said: “These figures reflect an extremely successful start for Duchy Originals from Waitrose and we look forward to announcing next year that the charity donation for our first 12 months of trading has significantly exceeded our GBP1m commitment.”
