Dr Oetker UK has signed a deal to buy The Schwan Food Company’s European frozen pizza business.
The deal, which includes the Chicago Town brand, will see Dr Oetker acquire the company’s UK pizza plant, Schwan’s business in 15 European countries, and licences for the Freschetta and Tony’s trademarks.
Schwan said it will focus more on the “continued development” of its North American business in the future.
Dr Oetker will integrate the UK pizza plant, Leyland into its UK division.
A spokesperson for Dr Oetker told just-food: “Dr Oetker’s strength in the UK has been built on both organic and acquisition across UK and Europe in all the categories and markets we operate in.”
The pizza plant, which Schwan built in Osterweddingen near Magdeburg, Germany, in 1998 is to be acquired by Freiberger Group. The company finalised a supply agreement with Dr Oetker to manufacture branded pizza products to sell across Europe.
