UK grocer the Co-operative Group has confirmed that it has put some 40 stores up for sale.
The retailer told just-food today (25 February) that the moves were simply a part of “normal store churn”.
“As a major food retailer with 3,000 stores we keep our portfolio under constant review and at any one time there will be disposals and acquisitions, at various locations across the UK, as part of normal store churn,” the spokesperson said.
However, she added that the Co-op plans to acquire more than 300 stores across the UK over the next three years.
