British supermarket chain Asda, a subsidiary of US giant Wal-Mart, is hoping to keep up with sector rivals by offering an extended range of new financial services, including motor insurance, by the end of the year.
Asda has already been in discussions with insurers over the possibility of selling car insurance through its 245 supermarkets in the UK, according to Insurance Times magazine.
A spokesman from the company said: “We would be looking to make some announcements by the end of the year.
He insisted, however, that “we have made no commitment to particular areas of financial services”.
