Duchy Originals, the UK food maker founded by the Prince of Wales, is looking to international markets to help it quadruple the size of the business in the next five years.

Andrew Baker, the company’s chief executive, outlined the company’s ambitions and said a “greater focus” on local sourcing and overseas markets would help expand the business.

Outlining his international goals, Baker said he plans to take the brand into the US and India. As in the UK, Baker said Duchy would look to work with local producers and “encourage farmers to adopt organic and sustainable methods”.

The former Cadbury executive said organic food “would remain the main focus” of the business. Duchy, he added, is looking to expand its range of meat products and relaunch its line of confectionery products.

“With the rapid evolution of the world’s food markets and the shift in consumers’ perceptions of environmental issues, I believe the time is right to invest in the company for a new stage of growth,” Baker said.

Baker took the helm at Duchy six months ago and has already set about revamping the sales and promotion of the products sold under the Duchy trademark.

Responsibility for selling Duchy products now rests with its suppliers, although the company will still handle the sales of its bakery and sweet desserts products.
