Charles Allen, the former chief executive of UK broadcaster ITV, has been named chairman of 2 Sisters Food Group.

Allen becomes 2 Sisters’ first chairman as the poultry supplier is being integrated with Northern Foods. 2 Sisters’ parent company Boparan Holdings acquired Northern earlier this year.

2 Sisters said the combination with Northern is set to create the UK’s fourth-largest food producer. Allen, who worked as an adviser on the acquisition, said it was “an exciting time” to be joining the 2 Sisters board.

Ranjit Singh, 2 Sisters’ owner, will remain chief executive said: “We are delighted that Charles is joining us. He brings a wealth of experience to 2 Sisters as we work to become fit for growth and bring the teams across 2 Sisters and Northern Foods together.”

Singh added: “We have a vision to grow to GBP3bn of sales by 2015 and the experience Charles has across many sectors will help us to deliver on this.”

Allen is currently chairman of radio broadcaster Global Radio, a senior adviser at Goldman Sachs and a non-executive director at Virgin Media. His career also includes a stint as chairman of music company EMI and time as a director at Tesco.
