Adams Foods has announced the launch of a sweet honey spread under its Kerrygold brand.
The dairy group said its Kerrygold Honey Spread is a sweet alternative to butter and is made by blending honey and butter.
Adams Foods said the product is easy to spread straight from the fridge, is low in fat and will have the same shelf life as butter.
The company said it has capitalised on the growing sweet spread market with the launch, valuing the sweet spreads channel as being worth GBP278m (US$444.2m) and is projecting it to grow by 11% by 2014.
Commenting on the launch, Adams Foods marketing director Alastair Jackson said: “Consumer research has been very positive with consumers stating that this product is unique and intriguing; convenient and has a wide appeal among all age groups. It also brings sweet spreads to the front of mind, sat in the fridge with other everyday items rather than at the back of the cupboard. We are really excited about the launch and the potential this product has to revolutionise consumer’s consumption of honey and butter.”
Kerrygold Honey Spread will launch in the UK from 4 April with an RRSP of GBP1.79 and will be supported by a targeted below the line campaign to encourage consumer trial and a dedicated PR campaign.
