Tyson Foods has resumed operations at a poultry plant in Arkansas after concerns over an ammonia leak forced the company to evacuate the facility.

The company evacuated about 250 employees after an ammonia smell was noted in part of Tyson’s Rogers Chick ‘n Quick facility while roof maintenance as being carried out yesterday (10 December).

A Tyson spokesperson told just-food “some team members asked to see a doctor” and were admitted to two area hospitals for observation. “As of 10 pm all of our employees had been released from observation. The plant resumed operations about 7 pm last night,” the spokesperson revealed.

“The health and safety of our employees is very important to us, that’s why we have extensive safety and health training, programs and policies in place at all of our facilities. Our emergency plans worked as they were designed to,” the spokesperson added.
