Turkey has recorded what it thought to be the first fatality outside of East Asia to the human form of the avian bird flu H5N1.
The UK’s Times newspaper reported today that a teenage farm boy in Turkey had died after contracting the disease. His sister is also reported to be in a serious condition in hospital after testing positive for bird flu.
Recep Akdag, the Turkey’s health minister, also confirmed last night that a third sibling is also suspected of having the virus.
