US potato processor, The Little Potato Co., has announced a US$31.7m investment into a new facility in DeForest.
The new plant which will comprise processing, washing, packing and storage facilities will also house its US head office.
The firm is investing US$20m and has received a US$11.7m grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation for the plant.
It expects to employ 50 staff when it opens in early 2017 and increase that number to 129 full time employees when fully operational.
“We are absolutely delighted to be opening our first US facility in DeForest. We know of Wisconsin’s reputation for its great growers and fertile land. In addition to its proximity to key markets, we chose DeForest because we recognise shared values that have long been important to us: family, community, helping others and always being down-to-earth. We look forward to meeting our new neighbours and playing a positive role in this community,” said Angela Santiago, co-founder and president of The Little Potato Co.
The firm processes Creamer potatoes for US and Canadian retail customers. Its products are sold in bagged varieties but also oven/grill and microwave-ready packs.
