New Zealand-based produce groups T&G and Zespri are to work together to try to grow their businesses in south-east Asia.
T&G chairman Prof. Klaus Josef Lutz and Zespri chair Peter McBride signed a memorandum of understanding confirming the companies’ intention to co-operate at trade show Fruit Logistica in Berlin yesterday (4 February).
“This is a positive collaboration between two large New Zealand exporters,” Prof. Lutz said.
The companies’ first move will be to work together to sell Zespri kiwifruit in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos in the 2016 season.
McBride said the initiative would “accelerate the growth in kiwifruit sales across a region with huge potential”.
T&G, part of Germany-based agribusiness BayWa, will open an office in Bangkok to support the two companies’ sales programmes. The two sides will also work together to grow sales of both Zespri and T&G branded products like Jazz and Envy apples in the region.
