French retail group Carrefour has completed the conversion of six former Tesco stores in Taiwan.

The acquisition of the Tesco outlets increases Carrefour’s hypermarket operation in the country to 44 outlets, and boosted its market share from 37% to 45%.

The retailer’s general manager for Taiwan Loic Dubois said the company intends to adapt product mix and enhance customer convenience to stimulate steady sales growth at the outlets.

Taiwan’s Carrefour operation posted a 5.2% fall in revenues at comparable stores in the second quarter, but Dubois said he was confident the company would record like-for-like growth in the third quarter, in spite of difficult conditions.

The company plans to open further four stores by the end of the year.
