The Nestlé Research Centre and EPFL, one of the two Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology, have entered into a five-year deal to research the relationship between the brain and nutrition.
Under the agreement, Nestlé will contribute CHF5m (US$4.02m) a year to fund research at EPLF’s Brain Mind Institute, where two Nestlé chairs will be established.
The research will range from observing the role nutrition plays in the development of children’s brains to assessing whether nutrition can play a role in slowing brain decline in old age and preventing degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s. The research will also study taste perception and flavour enhancement.
