Nestlé has hinted that it is considering plans to expand its weight-loss business outside the US.

The Swiss food giant, which bought the Jenny Craig weight-loss brand last year, is mulling whether to take the “concept” into more markets, a spokesman said.

The spokesman said Nestlé wants to focus on developing the Jenny Craig range in the US and its core overseas markets of Australia and New Zealand before drawing up firm plans for other markets.

He moved to cool reports that Nestlé is poised to launch a weight-loss range in the UK but admitted that the company sees potential for the “concept” in “Anglo-Saxon countries”.

“It’s really a question of opportunity, whether it will be Jenny Craig or something close to it. No decision has been made,” the spokesman told just-food today (18 December).
