Migros, Switzerland’s largest retailer, has acquired a stake in local dairy firm Schwyzer Milchhuus.
The deal, announced today (5 October), sees Migros’s milk processing subsidiary Elsa buy a 34% stake in Schwyzer Milchhuus for an undisclosed sum.
Migros said Schwyzer Milchhuus sells milk, cream and speciality cheese. The firm’s cheese products are also on sale in Germany, Migros added.
“This minority stake will form the basis of a longstanding partnership, while opening interesting business opportunities in the domestic market and abroad,” Migros said.
The investment came as Migros also announced that its meat processing subsidiary had acquired local poultry firm Gefluegel Favorit.
As well as its status as Switzerland’s largest retailer, Migros owns a swathe of food manufacturing operations and is the parent company of chocolate maker Chocolat Frey.
