Anglo-Dutch consumer products giant Unilever has sent samples of its Becel pro-activ margarine to a Dutch research institute for tests following reports from the Swedish Consumer Coalition SKIS concerning the amount of carcinogens in the product.

According to the consumer group, Becel pro-activ margarine contains twice the recommended maximum amount of aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which may cause cancer.

The Swedish unit of Unilever carried out its own tests following the report by SKIS, but did not find anything untoward, reported the Dutch News Digest.
