The farmer owners of Swedish dairy co-op Skanemejerier will vote again on Lactalis’s bid to buy a majority stake in the business after they failed to unanimously back the deal.
A second vote will be held on Monday (9 January) after a vote on 29 December failed to secure unanimous support for the deal. Five of the 42 members of Skanemejerier’s council opposed the amendements that are needed to be made to the dairy firm’s statutes to allow the deal to go through.
Skanemejerier said a “qualified majority” will only be needed to clear the deal at the second vote. Only two-thirds of its council members will need to vote in favour of the transaction.
