US lamb group Superior Farms plans to open a new processing facility in Dixon, California.
The company said the new plant represents a "substantial investment" and added that it should prove a boost for US lamb manufacturers. "We believe in the US lamb industry," said CEO Rick Stott. "We want to give producers the confidence that they will have a market for their lambs for a long time to come."

Superior Farms said the plant can process a lamb in 28 minutes – halving the time it previously took the group. Superior Farms revealed it can process up to 1,400 lambs per day in the 50,000-square-foot plant.
The new facility will reduce the company’s total carbon footprint, reducing the locations total energy consumption by 45% through the use of natural lighting, wind power and water reduction, which is estimated to be 20% lower.
"While we are all hoping for an end to this drought,we built this plant to be as water smart as possible and to ensure that almost every drop is repurposed for sustainable uses." said Shane MacKenzie, VP of operations for Superior Farms.
The plant, which is being built adjacent to the current facility, is expected to be fully operational at the end of August.
