US-based speciality foods manufacturer Stonewall Kitchen has taken the Napa Valley Naturals’ brands under its wing with the purchase of parent company Spruce Naturals.

Napa Valley Naturals was founded in the 1970s by Kendall Cook, who has sold the business to Stonewall for an undisclosed sum. The company takes its name from the wine-producing California county of the same name, and makes organic extra virgin olive oils, cooking oils and balsamic vinegar, along with organic pasta under the Montebello brand.

“Partnering with Stonewall Kitchen is a natural and authentic fit for us,” Cook said. “After growing Napa Valley Naturals and Montebello on our own over the last few decades, I’m looking forward to working alongside Stonewall Kitchen to help accelerate the continued growth of both brands.”

Napa Valley Naturals becomes the second recent acquisition made by Maine-based Stonewall after it completed the purchase of Tillen Farms, a pickled vegetable business, at the beginning of the year.

Stonewall was established in 1991, initially producing jams and jellies before expanding into sauces, condiments, crackers and baking mixes. The company also owns the Legal Sea Foods brand of sauces and condiments.

Chief executive John Stiker said: “This truly has been an exciting year for Stonewall Kitchen. With our expertise in brand building, product development, and omnichannel distribution, we are excited to continue to grow our business both organically and through additional selective acquisitions, with the goal of bringing our guests the best tasting and highest quality speciality foods.”
