UK-based Speciality Breads is investing £20m ($25.8) into quadrupling production by moving to another site.
The new location, which is set to be operational by the end of the year, will house two facilities to where Speciality Breads will move all its current production.
Speciality Breads, which is based in Margate in south-east England, is a manufacturer and wholesaler of bakery products. The company’s range includes breads, ciabatta, frozen dough, sweet bread and vegan products.
The two new facilities, which the company said will be situated nearby in the village of Manston, will be spread over approximately 180,000 sq ft.
At present, Speciality Breads produces around 50 tonnes of bread per week and the new site will take its output to around 200 tonnes.
The new site will have the space for another three production lines if needed to meet future demand, the company said.
In a statement, Speciality Breads described the move as a “significant step change for the business”.
The company is looking to use the investment to expand the range of products it sells to foodservice customers. It is also targeting the retail channel.
“We’d identified a few years ago that we were going to run out of capacity and as part of the move it made sense to futureproof the business in terms of both future growth and sustainability,” marketing manager Daniel Maidment told Just Food.
The new bakery will generate its own solar electricity and house what the company said would be “the UK’s first electric/gas hybrid stone bake oven”.
