110-year-old Danish hot dog and sausage maker Steff-Houlberg opened a fastfood restaurant in central Seoul yesterday, the result of an exclusive distribution agreement with Uni-Steff Korea Co.

Uni-Steff revealed that the decision to open a dedicated sausage restaurant was made after the company was encouraged by the response to its products in a number of Korean resorts and snack outlets. By stressing that the company adheres to strict requirements in the welfare of its animals from birth and the environment, the company has avoided being hit by consumer fears over BSE and foot and mouth disease.

Several Danish VIPs, including Leif Donde, Danish Ambassador to Seoul, attended the opening ceremony of the restaurant yesterday.
