Cadbury Schweppes has closed the deal to acquire South Africa’s largest chewing gum manufacturer from Dan Products. It is believed that the cost of the acquisition totalled in the region of GBP33m (US$61.59m).

The acquisition, a Cadbury spokesperson told just-food today (1 June), will reinforce the company’s presence in South Africa and act as a spring-board to further participation in that market. Cadbury has been expanding its presence in chewing gum of late, as it has identified this sector as offering potential for future growth.

The acquired business produces chewing gum in Botswana for sale in South Africa under the Stimorol and Dirol brand names.
