Leading UK supermarket operator Tesco will open six hypermarkets in Slovakia by the end of this year.
Local subsidiary Tesco Stores SK is shortly to open a hypermarket at the recreational and sporting region of Zlate Piesky, near the capital Bratislava. Others will follow in Sala, Levice, Dubnica, Nove Zamky and Michalovce, spokeswoman Olga Hrnciarova is reported as saying in Zoznam.
Tesco already operates six supermarkets and 12 hypermarkets in the Eastern European country, with a total retail space of 130,000m2. The new stores will increase this to 162,000m2.
The company generated sales worth SkK16.5bn (US$442m) in 2002.
