Krupskaya, the Russian confectioner owned by Norway’s Orkla Brands, has snapped up local chocolate spreads maker Peterhof for an undisclosed sum.

The St Petersburg-based confectioner told just-food today (18 March) that its parent’s “competence” in chocolate spreads in Norway meant Peterhof would “complement” the business.

A spokesperson said Peterhof led the Russian chocolate spreads category, with 31% of sales.

“From GFK market share data, we can see that Peterhof has a leading market position in chocolate paste spreads under the Academy of Chocolate, Vkusnyatina, Djinella and the Smeshariki brands,” the spokesperson said.

She added: “Orkla enjoys market leadership in chocolate paste spreads in Norway under the Nougati brand. This is a category where we have competence and can grow the value of the Peterhof brands in Russia. We believe Peterhof products are interesting and complementary to the current Krupskaya portfolio.”
