The battle for Russia’s lucrative ice cream market has heated up, with Unilever opening one ice cream factory after another, forcing its key opponents to take counter-measures.

Unilever’s main competitor, Switzerland-based Nestle, is also seeking new ways to expand its presence in the ice cream segment.

“We are planning to expand our presence in the Russian [ice cream] market by increasing the distribution and supply of new tastes and products to consumers,” said Nestlé spokesperson Marina Zubareva.

Currently, Unilever’s Inmarko has a 16.2% market share, while Russian firm Talosto accounts for 11.7% of sales, followed by Nestle with an 11.1% share.
