Australia-based airline Qantas is offloading its catering businesses to an aviation services company that is part of Emirates Group.

Under a deal still subject to competition clearance in Australia, Qantas is selling a business including Q Catering and Snap Fresh to Dnata, a unit of Emirates.

Q Catering has centres in four Australian ports – Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Snap Fresh is a meal production plant in Queensland, specialising in frozen meals for airlines, as well as customers in the healthcare and food retail industries.

“The catering businesses will benefit significantly from dnata’s global footprint, catering expertise, and ability to drive investment and growth for what is a core focus of its operation,” Qantas Domestic CEO Andrew David said.

Dnata supplies catering for Qantas flights in Adelaide, Canberra, London and Johannesburg.

Robin Padgett, Dnata’s divisional senior vice president of catering, added: “This agreement reflects our confidence in Australia as a market and the ongoing growth potential into the future.”
