Post Holdings and TreeHouse Foods are reportedly among the potential suitors for ConAgra Foods' private-label arm.

According to Reuters, Post and TreeHouse, as well as private-equity firms including Apollo Global Management and Cerberus Capital Management, are among companies that have held early discussions with ConAgra for the Ralcorp unit.

ConAgra said last month it planned to exit private label after seeing the business hit by competition and integration issues, weighing on the group's overall performance.

TreeHouse, ConAgra's major rival in US own label, and Post were touted by industry watchers as likely bidders for the business.

ConAgra acquired Ralcorp in 2012 after a long pursuit of the business, which at the time included Post, then focused on branded cereals.

After rejecting a number of bids, Ralcorp decided to spin off Post into a stand-alone listed business called Post Holdings in 2011.

Officials at US-based Post, TreeHouse, Apollo and Cerberus could not be reached out of office hours.
