Norwegian food group Rieber & Søn has agreed to sell a cake plant in Poland as it focuses on its Delecta brand in the country.

Rieber & Søn will sell the factory, which had a turnover of around NOK7m (US$1.2m) in 2009, to local firm Master Group Spolka for an undisclosed sum.

“The assets related to this factory were subject to market value adjustment at year-end 2009, and hence the sale will have a neutral effect in the accounts in 2010,” the company said.

Rieber & Søn said it was already “well-positioned” in Poland through Delecta brand, which has “strong market positions” within baking, cake mixes and desserts.

“Ambient shelf stable ready cakes are not a prioritised category within Rieber & Søn, and hence do not fit within our vision to develop and utilize our competitiveness through local taste setting. Divesting the factory will give Delecta the opportunity to focus on prioritised categories,” the group added.
