Rewe, the Germany-based retailer, has denied reports that UK retail giant Tesco is looking to acquire 24 of its Billa stores in Poland.
Reports today (28 April) have suggested that acquisition of the local Billa outlets would strengthen Tesco’s position in the Polish supermarket sector – one of the fastest growing sales segments in the country.
However, a spokesperson for Rewe told just-food: “I have no information about any talks or plans to sell our Billa supermarkets in Poland.”
Officials at Tesco could not be reached for immediate comment.
Yesterday, Rewe told just-food it plans to open 260 stores across its domestic market this year.
