Polish authorities have banned the import of pork from Bulgaria following a recent outbreak of swine fever in the country.
Miroslav Naidenov, from the Bulgarian National Veterinary Service, revealed yesterday [Tuesday] that the country has not seen such a serious outbreak for years. Spread by the illicit livestock trade and a lack of thorough vaccination, a total of 12 regions in Bulgaria are now affected by the disease.
Neighbouring Macedonia, which also imports Bulgarian pork, has not yet taken similar measures.
