UK juice specialist Plenish is launching a non-dairy beverage made from cashews.

Plenish Organic Cashew M*lk, available in a 1-litre carton, will complement Plenish’s existing Almond Nut M*lk, which it launched at the end of last year.

Made from organic cashews, filtered water and Himalayan salt, Organic Cashew M*lk is already available from Ocado and will also be sold in Waitrose from July, with a recommended retail price of GBP3.49 (US$5.05). A spokesperson told just-food as yet there were no plans to enter other mainstream channels.

According to Plenish, non-dairy milk alternatives are “big business” in the UK, now being purchased by one in every four households. The nut and seed milk category is currently the best performing sector in the dairy alternatives market, growing by 73.8% to GBP51.8m in the year to May 2015, according to Kantar Worldpanel figures.

Organic Cashew M*lk has 6% cashew content and contains no additives, preservatives or sweeteners. Plenish says the new product is a natural source of plant-based protein, which helps maintain healthy muscles and bones.
