The popularity of pre-sauteed corned beef, known in the Philippines as ‘karne norte’ is growing fast.

Karne norte grew its share of the Philippines corned beef category to 34% during the first half of this year, a study of meat processors showed. The corned beef business overall grew by 15% during the same period, after a couple of years of sluggish growth.

The growth in popularity of karne norte is attributed to the more liberal import rights for beef destined for use as raw materials, and a major effort by brand owners to promote the category.
