Nissin Foods is revamping its Top Ramen range in the US to remove added MSG and reduce sodium content in response to consumer demand for more healthy options.
Sodium has been cut by 15% and artificial flavours removed. While mono-sodium glutamate has been remove,d the instant snacks do contain some naturally occurring glutamates, the company said in a statement.

“We’ve been working diligently to remove unnecessary ingredients and lower the sodium, while preserving the same taste and texture,” said Gary Lai, director of marketing of Nissin Foods USA.
Nissin Food Products Co. was established by Momofuku Ando in 1958, who invented the first instant ramen noodle in Japan, and in 1970, it established Nissin Foods (USA) Co. in Gardena, California. Its brands now include Top Ramen, Cup Noodles, Hot & Spicy, Chow Mein, Ramen Bowl, RAOH, and Souper Meal.
