Food company Heinz-Watties Australasia has said that it will not be restocking grocery shelves with further supplies of its novelty green ketchup.
The company estimates that around 6% of New Zealand households bought the product since its launch a year ago, but says it never planned to sell it for a long period of time.
Popularity of the novelty sauce has declined, with remaining supplies being sold for 99 cents (US$0.49), instead of the original NZ$3.99 price.
Green ketchup was first marketed by Heinz’ US unit, which has since launched Funky Purple, Passion Pink, Awesome Orange and Totally Teal.
Tomato sauce is popular in New Zealand, with 3000 tonnes sold last year, more per capita than Australia, the US and South Africa, reported stuff.co.nz.
