New Zealand’s meat processing giant Affco Holdings has revealed that as many as 110 jobs could soon be lost at management level as the company embarks on the final stages of its structural and cost review process.

In the past year, Affco has already slashed the number of employees at its head office and international operations by two thirds.

Executive chairman Sam Lewis explained that the review process has highlighted the unsustainable nature of Affco’s cost levels. Head office staff, as a consequence, are likely to fall further from 130 to about 65 people. Up to 45 jobs would meanwhile be lost across Affco’s eight North Island plants.
