Privately-owned retailer Jumbo Supermarkten has told just-food that it plans to have 300 stores open by the end of 2012.
A spokesperson for the retailer told just-food today (23 June) that it expects to have 90 new stores opened by the end of the year. Around 22 of those will be Super de Boer stores, which Jumbo acquired last year.
Jumbo purchased rival Dutch retail group Super de Boer last autumn for EUR4.82 (US$7.20) per share, valuing the company at EUR552.4m. The sale included 22 Super de Boer stores, which the firm has been converting to the Jumbo banner since the sale.
The spokesperson said Jumbo is currently in the process of opening around two stores each week, with a break during the summer months.
“Last year we opened 44 stores,” she told just-food. “This year we will open 90 and in 2012 we will open a further 35, bringing the total number of stores to around 300 by the end of 2012.”
