Dutch grocery retailer Schuitema has said its nine-month net profit edged up amid a fierce price war in the Dutch supermarket sector.

Schuitema reported net profit of €35.5m (US$45.0m) for the first nine months of the year, compared to €35.1m a year earlier. Net sales came in at €2.48bn.

Schuitema, which is 73% owned by Dutch retail giant Ahold, said it would not provide a full-year outlook because it was difficult to assess the market situation, reported Reuters.
