Mexico expects to commence chicken meat exports to the US market within the next few months, becoming one of the few countries to export poultry to the US.
Five Mexican states have been recognised by the US as being free of the Newcastle poultry disease, bringing the country one step closer to being able to export poultry to the US, reported Dow Jones International News.
US food inspectors are to visit Mexico next month to inspect 33 chicken processing facilities.
“We’re very confident that we’re going to have some plants that are 100% qualified (to export),” Javier Trujillo, director of safety and inspection at Mexico’s Agriculture Ministry, was quoted by Dow Jones as saying.
