Mexican farmers protesting government plans to expropriate their land to construct a big new international airport have freed all 19 hostages they had taken.


The clash with riot police, which has lasted since last Thursday, is nearing a peaceful climax, Reuters reported. Farmer leaders said they would take down the roadblocks they had built on a major highway and other thoroughfares, and the government has called off hundreds of police officers.
