Netherlands-based Anova Seafood is selling its frozen operations to Seafood Connection to concentrate on the processing and sale of fresh and chilled products.
Anova Seafood is aiming to specialise in the processing and sale of fresh and chilled products from its production facilities in the Netherlands, according to a statement posted on Seafood Connection’s website. Anova supplies fish products mainly to European retailers and foodservice outlets under its namesake brand, as well as Sea & We and Del Mare. It also offers several private-label products.
Seafood Connection in the Netherlands has been owned by Japan’s Maruha Nichiro since 2013 and supplies frozen seafood products to retailers, foodservice channels, wholesalers and food processors.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
“We see a lot of potential by adding Anova’s product portfolio to our current business and it will strengthen our position in sourcing, processing and sales of seafood products”, said Seafood Connection chief executive Jan Kaptijn.
Anova’s owners, Constant Mulder and Willem Huisman, will now focus the company’s operations on the international distribution of fresh and premium seafood from 1 January.
“We see a lot of potential for Anova to strengthen and expand our position in the fresh and chilled seafood segment, and therefore we have redirected our strategic focus towards the fresh and chilled seafood segment,” said Mulder.
